Collection: Ancient Bog Oak
Bog oak is a general term referring to partially fossilized wood.
Buried in the bogs, a fallen oak tree will stay safe from rot because Oak trees are naturally high in tannin, which is a natural preservative, and a bog is naturally low in oxygen. The combination of preservative, plus tannin being acidic, plus little oxygen equals a perfect environment for nature to preserve her treasures.
This series of Ancient Bog Oak handboards has been carbon dated to 4,000 years old.
